What will I study? 

The year focuses on extending the three key sports specific strands: 

  • Coaching

  • Management of sports development strategy

  • Sports Science. 

The year is split into 2 semesters: 

Semester 1

  • Research methodologies in Sport

  • Performance Coaching

  • Dissertation

Semester 2

  • Nutrition, Lifestyle & Health for Athletes

  • Planning for Performance Management

  • Dissertation

Entry Requirements

96 UCAS Points

plus GCSE English & Maths (grades 4-9), or equivalent, or Access to Higher Education Certificate

BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching


All UCS courses, delivered in partnership with Activate Learning and UCC are regulated by The Office for Students, which reports to Parliament through the Department for Education. 


Course Progression:

Access to further study at Post Graduate  level (7 and above) 

Career Opportunities:

UCS Students gain the skills, knowledge and aptitude needed for a successful career in sports development, health clubs, fitness clubs, sports centre management and sports coaching.

Many students gain employment in sports coaching, management and development roles with professional clubs, National Governing Bodies, and other sports organisations. 

Work Experience

Government surveys show 75% of students believe work placements provide them with increased confidence and skills. 

During the BSc qualification, students typically have two days of lectures and seminars along with at least one day per week of work experience, although the latter is not a requirement of the programme. 

Our exclusive relationships with professional sports industry partners mean that this work experience provides a valuable advantage, particularly when it comes to applying for a job.

Blended Learning

All UCS programmes are delivered through a blended learning approach.

This consists of 80% online module delivery and 20% face to face learning, allowing for streamlined group interaction, as well as assessment of practical skills such as coaching, training, performance and fitness testing.

The blocks of practical learning may not be at your home campus. 

They take place at designated UCS campuses. Attendance at these sessions is compulsory, and the options available are discussed during the application process.
